the next ms. gina kolata, perhaps?

how great would it be to be a columnist for the New York Times?

absolutely fabulous!

after tons of consideration regarding what i may want to do, or what line of work i would enjoy being involved in, after i graduate this year, i've realized that i genuinely enjoy writing. and i've been told, many times in the past, that i'm not all that terrible at it, either.

i realize that my first job isn't going to be as a columnist for the NYT -BUT, it's something i can definitely work towards.

it's funny, actually, because after all these years of writing paper after paper after paper -and hating it! - i've recently stopped putting up so much resistance and have actually embraced the art of creative writing. obviously writing papers for school is different. but writing in general allows me this creative outlet to say what i mean to say without actually having to say it. and in the process, i learn about myself as well as so much that goes on around me. it heightens my awareness and grounds my emotions at the same time.

it's almost this spiritual relationship i have between what i feel, what i want to say and what i write.

and i only realized this recently. but i have quite the portfolio in terms of quality material i can showcase as my own. from articles for the high school newspaper to the writing assignments from the creative writing and literature courses i took in high school...to the papers i've written throughout my university career as well as a few articles i wrote for my college's newspaper back in first year. all that, plus my personal blog..some posts from which would, in my opinion, qualify as worthy pieces of creative writing.

so, essentially, i've gotten to this point where i don't feel as if the past four years of my life were an entire waste of time -and that something may actually come from my decision to study english and philosophy.

and it's a nice feeling finally getting that sense of enlightenment and passion towards something you've already ben doing for so long. it's been a long time coming, even though the answer was always right under my nose. and with this newfound appreciation of what i do...that and the fact that it turns out that i'm good at it at the same time, i guess it's a win-win situation...which is nice, every once in a while =)
