i didn't realize how jam-packed the next couple days are going to be. first off, with the opening of the vancouver olympics; and then with valentine's day tomorrow and family day the day after that, this weekend's looking like a pretty huge deal.
i just wanna say -and i'm being completely truthful here- that watching the olympic opening ceremony was, actually, very emotional. much more so than i had anticipated. it wasn't that it was exceptionally done or spectacular beyond what is expected of the olympics. but, it just ignited (no pun intended) a genuine sense of canadian pride -one which is often overshadowed by the united states in their obsessive nationalism or love of football.
so, yes. i am proud to be canadian. and i've got the mitts to prove it! =)
other than that, tomorrow is valentine's day..and i don't exactly know what to say. i definitely won't deny it: it's a nice idea; one which jumpstarts the commercial market -and one i've always been an advocate of. and i'm perhaps, slightly, slightly bitter for not having ever been the recipient of a spectacular valentine's day celebration, despite the fact that i've been the donor (of what i remember to be a pretty fantabulous v-day surprise). i suppose my disappointment simply has to do with the fact that my not-so-high expectations remain unattainable for the majority of men.
however, such is life -as is usually the case.
it is what it is, after all. and all anyone can do is be hopeful (unless your significant other, for some reason, always delivers). and as one of many hopefuls, maybe this year will be turn out to be different than the year before's and the year's before that..and the year's before that, too.
..and then family day should be interesting with the all-star line up at work -and, of course, getting paid time and a half never hurts.
anyway, here's to being optimistic that all three of those events are dessertful =)
