how different are the faculties of necessity and desire anyhow?
do we only need things that ensure our survival, like food, water and shelter; or is it possible to need things that are ultimately superfluous or even detrimental to our very existences, like love?
how do you know whether something you feel you need is, in fact, only something you really, really want? what is it in us that makes us unable to refrain from splurging on shoes, coats..yoga pants or lulu bags, when we don't really need those things (or more than one of each of those things)? and why is it that break-ups are one of the hardest things human beings will ever be forced to sit through?
it turns out that desire is truly the spice of life. regardless of what it is, be it shoes or purses...or lululemon attire (LOL), it keeps you coming back. whereas being in need of something or someone just doesn't have that same effect.
ultimately, it's more simple than it is complex. and that's the thing about needs: once you get them met, you don't need them anymore*. which clearly explains why capitalism is one of the greatest inventions EVER, and why needy people function solely as the epitome of unattractiveness in this world.
*who else? carrie bradshaw.
