one of my longest standing internet profiles has been deactivated, with the intention of never being signed into or re-activated ever again.
although once upon a time the end-all and be-all of a university student's life -my life included -facebook has become everything irritating including a hassle with the endless string of notifications and email alerts. not to mention a major security concern when it comes to ensuring that people who are merely "facebook friends" and nothing more than that are kept out of the loop of one's everyday happenings. it has become so easy to cross that line we all draw in the sand in terms of having a private personal life when your "friends" can so easily -and without even mention of consent -check you into places, tag you in their status updates and essentially pull you down with them as they expose their every move, thought and emotion to the world at 5-second intervals, which they fail to perceive as too frequent to be doing anything in this world besides breathing.
let's not be completely ridiculous now. and it's just not me...never has been, never will be. i like knowing that only the people i'm with when i'm with them know where i am when i'm there. someone who i went to elementary school with but haven't spoken to in over 15 years....well, what business of theirs is it to know when i was last at the gas station at britannia and creditview with so and so and so and so?
so, yes -the withdrawal symptoms may start to kick in soon. but now that my profile deactivation has been officially "announced" in a blog post, i suppose this is simply to say that my decision is permanent. and thank goodness for that because this facebook fad has WAY overstayed it's welcome, if you ask me.
